So, you are asking yourself how to charter a boat? Not because you don’t know how to use a search engine on a yacht charter website to book your preferred vessel. But because you have never been sailing, or cruising with a boat, you have never had a boat permit, you don’t have the necessary licenses, skills, permits, and whatever else is needed, and of course no experience. But somewhere, someone told you about the beautiful country of Croatia and its 1000 islands, beautiful bays, and hidden secret spots that are only accessible if you are sailing by boat, whether it’s a sailing boat, motor yacht, catamaran, or anything similar.
Well, that is where the phrase "crewed yacht charter" emerges!
What is a crewed yacht charter?
in short, it’s exactly what it says: a yacht that you have chartered with a crew! For bigger ships like mega yachts, it’s a must, and the crew usually includes more people than you, and if it's just you and your family, they're usually rather expensive. But for sailing boats, motor yachts, and catamarans it’s an optional thing you can choose, and it’s affordable compared to all the others as you can choose to have a captain (skipper) and a hostess.
Usually, a hostess and captain are hired together (but occasionally only the skipper), although in this case, the skipper is responsible for navigation, the vessel's and crew's safety, frequent monitoring of weather forecasts and route planning correctly, and all ship's supplies (water, electricity, fuel). The captain is in charge of running the vessel, conducting minor repairs throughout the journey, dealing with paperwork in marinas.... looking after the boat and all outside work,
while the hostess is in charge of the accommodation and cleanliness of the interior area. The hostess's primary tasks are to keep the ship's interior clean and orderly. and if there is no chef, she is also in charge of making modest meals, keeping order on board, cooking, and grocery shopping (by agreement). Your responsibility to the skipper or captain hostess is to feed and accommodate them.
