The situation of winds and waves here is rather interesting. First, we will be explaining the winds. There are a total of 8 types of winds that blow here on the Adriatic Sea, and the characteristics of each are different, and they can be easily recognized by looking at the clouds. Here are the details about each of them.
Bura: This north-eastern is the dry and cold type of wind that makes sailing somewhat challenging. It can also bring rain with it however, after the wind has passed, the weather becomes delightful.
Jugo: A south-eastern wind that is usually humid and warm brings lousy weather and bid waves along with it.
Maestral: This wind usually blows very gently at 15-20 knots and makes the environment perfect for sailing.
Tramontana: The cool wind that comes from the north makes the weather lovely.
Grego: This wind is unpleasant as it can be intense sometimes; however, it brings clear weather.
Levant: This wind comes from the east, and it brings rain along with it with a lot of humidity.
Ostro: This wind is warm comes from the south.
Lebic: Is coming from the southwest; this wind brings waves in the shallow harbors.
Apart from these pleasant winds, there is a sudden strong storm that can be seen about 3 to 4 times a month. It usually lasts for about 30 minutes, known as Neverin.
Waves
The waves here are made due to the type of wind blowing. So, usually, the waves are between 0.5 to 1.5 meters high. They can get higher if the wind is strong but that is something happening only during the winter, so this will not make any problems for your during your summer sailing holidays.
Tides
Tides are usually small here, averaging about 40 centimeters. However, if Jugo blows, they can get a bit bigger comparatively.
Sea Currents
Sea currents also occur due to the speed of the wind, and usually, they are about 0.5 knots. However, depending on the speed of the wind, they can get faster.
The usual temperature range in the Sibenik area
In the summer days, the temperature on the land can go up to 40 degrees Celsius. However, that on the sea is about 25, making sailing in the summer days a quiet enjoyable thing. Although the temperature at sea level gets competitively cooler, one thing to be noted is that this is a region of dry summers, so one must expect a lot of sunshine here.
